Working with Henry Street Settlement (HSS) and Beyer Binder Bell Architects, we developed and produced a range of office furniture solutions for an open plan office, private offices, meeting and conference rooms, and kitchenette area.
Because groups of workstations are clustered in relatively small and tall spaces, we worked with a sound engineer to limit the level of sound by adding Sound Soak panels and translucent Acrylic panels to our standard partition wall.
Individual single-pedestal workstations have partition installed on two or three sides, allowing for workers to see and be seen at their choosing. Cubicle but not; individual areas feel open yet enclosed. The dividers can stand alone or can be mounted to our workstations allowing for flexible floor layouts.
Research has shown that people do their best work in environments that allow for both social buzz while also providing them with boundaries (separation). The integrated Soundsoak acoustical wall panels absorb 50% to 90% of the sound striking the surface – reducing noise within a space and reducing noise transfer between areas.
The Architecture program at Tulane University was looking to replace roughly 250 desks in its studios, and they turned to AOS, a local Knoll dealership for help. After not being able find existing product to fit their needs, AOS worked with Milder Office to, together with students, faculty and administrators, develop a custom solution for the project.
After the initial design phase, Milder Office produced a prototype for Tulane. Some revisions were made to the design based on feedback during the review phase. With all stakeholders on board, Milder Office then produced the order.
The resulting workstation and mobile pedestal combination offered improvements over the old studio furniture (see last photos) including increased privacy, integrated task lighting (under the overhead storage shelf), cutting matte surface, pin-up surface, and flexible individual storage (pedestal). Tulane also specified Milder Markerboards for the space.
The order was shipped flat to the AOS warehouse where it was assembled and delivered to the Tulane campus.
The renovation was well received, and Tulane University has placed an order for more workstations for summer 2019.

This project exemplifies the range of design and engineering support Milder Office can provide its clients. For the Burgiss Group, a developer of investment tools, we provided distinct workstation products including quads workstations, hoteling stations for transitional workers, reception area, library and private offices.
We routinely develop new solutions that respond to the way our clients work. For Burgiss Group we developed a long banks of shared workstations for their traders (image 2). The stations have staggered seats and low partitions to facilitate communication between the analysts while keeping their screens private.
The architects asked us to develop a glass partition system that would integrate some of the existing site finishes while maintaining the overall look of the Milder Furniture System. Cherry sills and frosted glass elements were matched in the final partition design.
The MIT Tech Review’s offices offer a space that is responsive to the varied needs of its staff, from private offices, to an art room, to a newsroom hub’ that offers privacy without the cubicle. The newsroom, the anchor of this open floor plan, support easy flow and connections throughout the space through clever placement ‘L’ shaped units that integrate a single pedestal workstation with storage unit. Varying partition heights allow for longer sightlines while maintaining some privacy.

LITTLE is an architectural firm that came to Milder Office to overhaul their 10,000SF offices in Durham, NC, they had a good sense of what it is they wanted. Our furniture system allowed the client to tailor products to their specific needs while maintaining a cohesive aesthetic throughout.
Clients have specialized needs, LITTLE wanted oversized desktops that could support the way they worked and could accommodate architectural plans. Milder also furnished conference rooms, private offices, lounge, as well as a custom kitchen and storage options throughout. A clever mix of pre-finished plywood colors were specified throughout the space to great effect.
The AIA Orlando Chapter awarded a Merit Award to the LITTLE Durham office. The jury commended the project’s successful interiors reuse project for being “restraint with a minimalist approach and strong interior furniture elements”.
P’unk Ave is mid-sized technology company that needed a flexible, clutter free space. The Milder Office Basic Workstation includes personal storage and wire management options that make the clutter disappear. These mobile stations are sometimes rearranged as teams and project change; seen here in a quad configuration. A series of holes and pegs allow staff to personalize their preferred storage for bags, headphones and the like.
Sadly today’s wireless office doesn’t actually mean “no wires”. Since the stations needed to be moved easily, we neatly stored away the wires, adapters and power cords in an under the desktop channel. The benefit of having easy access without losing desktop surface, while getting rid of unsightly tangles of wire under the desk. Shown here with a laminate finish, the lids are typically fashioned from the desktop material.

At Milder Office we believe that a collaborative process yields better results for our clients. We provided space planning support to Ideas on Purposes, responding to their designers needs and workflows. The resulting layout included private offices, a reference library, conference room, and open work area for the graphic designers. We have worked with IOP over the past decade, re-configuring and modifying the workstations as needed to accommodate a growing staff.
Wall mounted lockers have never been so attractive. This simple and effective design is well suited for schools, sport facilities, or the office – anywhere your clients need secure storage options. Locker sizes and grid configuration can be adjusted based on your site conditions. Key and combination locks available. Lockers options include shelves and hooks. Shown here are short term lockers with quick release coin/lock mechanism, and perforated front panel for content viewing.
Work styles differ. We will work with you to specify furniture that responds to those needs. In the case of the All Ages video editing stations, the client wanted to include built in a monitor stand, and a double top desktop for easy paper storage and power management. We also offer keyboard trays, monitor arms, wire cutout and casters.

We believe in collaboration, Milder Office worked with Design Trust to design their new offices, starting with space planning support and through to final installation. Our modular system allows clients to easily expand and adapt their furniture as their business grows.
Milder Office offers free floor planning support to it’s client. For example , in layout the space, the free standing storage unit currently partitioning the conference area from the rest of the office was positioned so that it could be moved as the business expands and additional workstations are added.
